Data acquisition is the process in which environmental data is collected using sensors, dataloggers and telemetry such as HydroTel. The raw data acquired from the environment is turned into information through analysis and reporting.
Acquisition systems can be used in real time to inform operational decisions to be made such as optimising flow around a hydro power scheme, or data can be provided to forecasting models to enable planned procedures to be implemented. For example flood forecasting river levels that could result in road closures. Data acquisition therefore provides the foundation for which we can manage our resources wisely, optimise our decision making and mitigate risk.
